With Fraxel laser, known to physicians such as Dr. Radmila Lukian as fractional photo-thermolysis, we are now able to dramatically improve skin texture, smooth out acne scars, improve pigmentation problems such as melasma and brown spots, and reduce fine to moderate lines and wrinkles in just a few treatments with minimal to no downtime.
Using Fraxel laser or the Clear + Brilliant device, known as ‘baby fraxel’ we can stimulate regeneration of the deeper collagen and elastin tissues while resurfacing around 20% – 30% of your skin's surface with each treatment. These fractional lasers can remodel collagen within the skin without harming your skin’s surface, producing a smoother, fresher, younger-looking skin with minimal downtime. Fractional-thermolysis lasers provide all of the improvements associated with ablative laser procedures but without any significant interference with daily activities.
We are all born with smooth, baby soft skin. However, as we go through life, skin is subject to numerous hazards. Ageing, heredity and gravity create fine lines and wrinkles, especially around the mouth and eyes, as we age. Also, over-exposure to the sun, alcohol use, and smoking are all known to significantly accelerate the development of these natural signs of ageing.
Until now we have only had two laser options to treat ageing and sun-damaged skin: ablative laser procedures and non-ablative lasers. Ablative lasers produce great results but come with significant side effects and prolonged recovery. Non-ablative lasers promise minimal recovery but provide less dramatic results.
Fractional laser treatment, however, offers amazing results with minimal recovery time.
You will see a good effect after the first treatment; however, most indications seem to respond dramatically after only 3-6 treatments, spaced every 3-4 weeks apart. The fractional laser produces a gradual remodeling of the collagen under the skin's surface. Improvements in the appearance of your skin will continue for up to six months or more. Maintenance sessions are recommended once seasonally.
The Fraxel type lasers are specially designed to alter only portions of the target skin tissue. The fractional laser creates multiple, microscopic, subsurface thermal injuries to the skin. These micro-injuries cause a change in collagen and elastin, which gradually improves the appearance of your ageing and sun-damaged skin. It also results in a healing process with very little, if any, downtime. In addition, the laser penetrates to a very precise, controlled depth, making the procedure safe and predictable, while reducing the risk of scarring or pigmentation problems.
First, the area is cleansed. For your comfort, a topical anesthetic ointment is applied to the treatment area. The fractional laser therapist or Dr.Radmila Lukian will glide the hand-piece precisely over the surface of the skin, covering the entire face and focusing on problematic areas. There is minimal discomfort whilst the treatment is being performed. However, once we have completed the procedure, your face will feel hot like you suffered ‘mild sunburn’ and you may have some mild swelling. Treatments normally take about 20-25 minutes.
